Work Text:
For once, Tenya, Ochako, and Izuku are out on a date to the mall. Peacefully eating their ice cream, they don't really expect to be faced with an overexcited child without a supervising parent. But there is one now, toddling right up to Izuku and hugging his leg, which makes Ochako coo and Tenya panic immediately because: "Clearly a child this small should not be unsupervised!"
He's not wrong. Looking around, Izuku doesn't see a parent immediately following the kid. As the toddler is still happily attached to his leg, Izuku softly pats their head to draw their attention. "Are you here with your mom and dad?"
The toddler looks up at him, eyes big and round like tapioca, and proceeds to babble happily at him, fingers clutching his pant leg tightly. As it seems the child is not letting go of his leg any time soon, Izuku looks helplessly at his partners — Ochako, who is smiling softly at the sight, and Tenya, who is looking a little distressed. "Help?" Izuku asks, unsure what to do next.
Taking pity on him, Ochako kneels down and open her arms. "Can I pick you up, little one?"
Clearly able to see that Ochako is the sweetest person in the whole world — in Izuku's humble opinion — the toddler makes a happy noise and immediately throws themselves into Ochako's arms. She laughs softly, lifting them up. "Come on, let's find your parents."
This morning, Izuku had stumbled into the boys' communal bathroom, feeling like he'd been hit by a truck. Maybe he shouldn't have stayed up that long for his homework. But he did, and now he must live with the consequences.
Izuku is brushing his teeth when Tenya enters the bathroom, looking similarly tired as Izuku. Against expectations, Tenya isn't much of an early riser — he does it for school, but his internal clock likes sleeping in. Izuku isn't much different. Unfortunately, that means that between the two of them, neither of them realizes their mistake until the damage is already done.
When Tenya's arm movements become choppier with his anxiety, a tiny toddler hand shoots out, catching one of his fingers.
Tenya freezes, clearly caught by surprise. The expression on his face must be amusing even to a toddler because there's a joyful giggle coming out of the child's mouth. Ochako and Izuku both can't hide a smile either, at Tenya's baffled expression.
"Please release my finger," Tenya says sternly, like he's negotiating a hostage situation. The toddler makes a happy gurgling sound. Izuku has to press his lips together in a line to avoid laughing at his boyfriend.
After Tenya has spent the three minutes of Izuku's teeth brushing curled against his back, his head tucked into Izuku's neck, he begrudgingly lets go to get his glasses, having forgotten them in his room. He presses a soft kiss to Izuku's skin, low on his neck, before he goes.
Izuku smiles to himself and continues with his routine — washing his face, brushing his hair, the usual. He's still tired, but his body is making peace with the state of wakefulness.
"Mon dieu!" The gasp echoes dramatically from the bathroom tiles, and Izuku blinks sleepily at the mirror to find Yuuga. Yuuga, in his satin pajamas, looks scandalized. Izuku doesn't quite understand why, but it's making him panic anyway.
"What's wrong?" He asks, alarmed.
Yuuga stares at him. "You don't know?!" His voice bounces around the room.
When they find the parents, just around the corner, both of them almost burst into tears. It turns out the child — a boy — has just started to walk without help — and one second, he'd been in sight of their parents, and the next, he'd been gone between the people milling around in the mall.
The toddler is happy to see his parents, but unbothered by their relief. Instead, he babbles at them joyfully. Izuku smiles at the shaken parents. "He didn't seem distressed at all. He just walked up to us and wouldn't let go, so we figured we'd look for you."
"Thank you," the father says. He brushes the child's hair back, presses a kiss to the kid's forehead.
The mother turns to them, anxiety lessened now that the child is happily in his father's arms. "Did he use his quirk?"
His quirk? Izuku looks at the others. Finding his own doubts there, he shakes his head slowly. "I don't think so?"
So. It turns out the child's quirk did activate after all.
Which is probably the cutest quirk Izuku has ever heard of — if someone affected by it kisses another person, little colorful kiss marks appears on the skin. The parents had said it wore off within a few hours, but Izuku had thought that also meant the quirk itself would wear off in a few hours. He didn't think he'd have to go to class with a print of Tenya's kiss on the back of his neck. His classmates would never let him live it down if they knew. (Yuuga has already been bribed, so he won't tell on Izuku.)
Awkwardly, Izuku fidgets with his shirt collar. It's high enough to hide the mark, but he hates how tight it is, making him feel suffocated. It's a warm summer day, and the stiff fabric makes him feel overheated. Usually, he'd just open the top button, since the teachers don't mind a little bit of comfortableness for the students. But, well. That's not really an option today. If his collar slips, he's going to have Kacchan staring at the back of his neck, and the teal-blue color of the mark is all too visible on his skin.
He glances to the side, catches Tenya already looking at him. When their eyes meet, a look of guilt flashes across Tenya's face. Izuku narrows his eyes at his boyfriend, trying to psychically implant the thought stop apologizing into his head. He's not sure it's working. Probably not, knowing Tenya's stubborn streak.
Stretching his hand across the distance between them, Izuku brushes his fingers against Tenya's arm. "It's fine, Tenya."
Tenya looks like he has been forced to bite into a lemon. "It is not!"
Izuku frowns. "Why not?"
With the seriousness of failing an important test, Tenya sighs. "I should have been more careful."
Izuku's heart is so full of annoyed affection for his boyfriend. He opens his mouth, to ask how Tenya should have known that the quirk would still be active when he kissed him this morning, but he's interrupted by—
"Deku! Tenya!" The voice of their girlfriend makes Izuku turn, heart jumping as it always does at Ochako's voice. She looks as lovely as always, bounce in her step as she skids to a stop in between their desks. "Good morning!"
Before Izuku can explain anything about the situation, Ochako immediately picks up on Tenya's bad mood. She brings a hand to Tenya's face, lifting his eyes up to hers. "Did you not sleep well?"
Tenya, perhaps struck silent by the vision of his girlfriend in front of him, nods, clears his throat. "I—"
He doesn't get to finish that sentence. Ochako leans forward and presses a kiss to his cheek, like she often does when her boyfriends are not feeling well — and when her mouth leaves Tenya's skin, her kiss is printed on his cheek, purple watercolor shades bleeding into each other.
"Oh!" Ochako says, surprise and a tinge of panic in her voice.
Izuku can't help but sigh and bury his face in his hands.
(Tenya ends up having to sit through the entire day with a kiss print on his cheek. Izuku takes pity on his boyfriend and loosens the top button, even though it makes Mina and Hagakure squeal, Kacchan roar with laughter, and Fumikage avoid eye contact.)
(Ochako lets Izuku press a kiss to her skin during the first break, pouting at being excluded from the needling of the class. The sunset-shaded mark on the back of her hand makes him blush a little every time he sees it in class.)
