You can always smell ash long after the fire is gone. Perhaps, that’s why Drea still can’t breathe without choking on the past. It’s been four years since her mom died. Four years since she burned alive. Four years since Drea didn’t. She survived, but they must have buried her heart with her mom because she feels like a shadow, some horrifically sad creature caught halfway between a ghost and a lamb for slaughter.
