Note: The "scary" tags for this fic are meant as trigger warnings. I tried to set them up so they can be filtered out. Levi doesn't abuse or exploit Eren. This fic does not "romanticize abuse" at all. Those tags relate to other character interactions, but not the two of them with each other. Non-con/abuse/etc. are not glorified in this fic at all. They are written as the heartbreaking, awful things that they are. This is also a story with a heavy focus on character growth. Levi and Eren both become better partners to each other as the fic goes on.

Finney had been told he was crazy his whole life.
Sometimes, it wasn’t with words. Sometimes, it was a haunting and mournful glance his father threw at him after snapping Finney out of whatever staring contrast he was having with a spot of nothingness.
And sometimes his father would cry out in desperation– in a type of defeat he only admitted when he was at the end of his rope and couldn’t deny the truth any longer, “You’re crazy,” he would raise the belt, “Just like your mother!” He would spit, not wanting to think about the other possibility, “Just like your sister!”
The doctors would later echo his father’s words– slowly and carefully like they were trying to avoid an adverse reaction. And then, when they prescribed the pills, his father refused to look at his son for a month. Finney knew why.
After all, he was officially crazy now.
And everybody knew it.
But… Robin didn’t seem to care about what he was now branded as– what everybody whispered his future looked like.
He didn’t care if he would turn out like his mother. Robin showed no fear when Finney’s pills began to fail in that basement and the voices, the screams, the visions and the new ringing of the black phone seeped into his mind and threatened to drive him further away from whatever sanity he still possessed.
But years later when The Grabber was successfully buried six feet underground and Finney swore he could hear his voice through the static of the unoccupied phone, Robin started to care.

And mirth that eventually dissolved when Bruce opened his mouth and continued speaking, “We only want what’s best for you,” he insisted, watching as the furrow in Finney’s brow deepens before he added, “And a stronger dose…” he trailed of sharing a look Finney was too tired to decipher with Robin before he explained, “A stronger dose would be for the best,” he uttered like a fact.A fact that Finney found himself unsure of.

Finney frowned before he gaze a slow shake of his head, “I haven't heard,” he paused, hesitating before he finally uttered that monster's name in a hushed whisper, “The Grabber,” he hoped they could see his silent apology shining through the dazed look in his eyes at the mention of that name, “Since I upped my dose last time,” he reminded them.Or maybe he was pleading with them? Begging them to understand that he hadn’t somehow managed to descend further into insanity. Not like they were suggesting.
But, obviously, he seemed to be wrong. Because soon, Bruce’s shoulders sagged as a strange mixture of disappointment and hesitate regret filled his eyes, “You have, Finn,” Bruce eventually informed him, regret dripping from his words.

Vance wasn’t subtle like Robin and Bruce. Instead, he was loud with his declaration.“You’re fucking crazy, Finn,” Vance huffed, shaking his head as a hint of disappointment and… pleasure? Sparkled in his eyes, “You need help.”

“It’s okay,” Griffin assured him, waving his hand in the air like he was trying to dismiss Finney’s apology, “We don’t mind,” he answered, wondering if they would ever allow the drugs to lessen enough for Finney to realize how much truth was in that statement.And how much they equally loved and hated this.
(And maybe, just maybe, they enjoyed this a little too much.)
But, Griffin knew that Finney understood why they were doing this. Deep down, Finney must know that they were doing this to protect him.
To protect him from the same fate his mother and Gwen succumbed to.
To protect Finney… and them.
